Birth Complications
Unfortunately, birth complications are all too common. Even in situations where a mother and fetus seem to be in perfect health, certain instances can arise during labor and delivery which cannot be anticipated. Therefore, doctors, hospitals and their medical teams must be poised to act efficiently and responsibly when birth complications do arise.
Bith complications sually occur due to the baby’s position in the womb. An example of this type of birth complication is shoulder dystocia. Shoulder dystocia, also referred to as Erb's Palsy, may occur where a baby’s shoulder gets stuck on the mother’s pelvic bone or entanglement in the umbilical cord.
Birth Complications & Medical Malpractice
Birth complications which arose from failure to properly date the pregnancy, failure to properly treat prenatal infections, improper prenatal care or medical mistakes during childbirth may have beeen caused by medical negligence and may have been preventable. Medical mistakes in handling birth complications could result in permanent brain damage by causing oxygen deprivation, or permanent nerve damage in the neck and arm, such as Erb’s palsy. These include medical mistakes or medical negligence caused by complications during forceps or vacuum extractions, difficult or long labor and low or no amniotic fluid.
Medical malpractice may have occured if a physician or other health care provider failed to do something for you or your child that other reasonably prudent providers would have done under the circumstances.
If you or someone you know has been injured due to medical malpractice and suffer from a birth complication, you may be entitled to monetary compensation. Please fill out the form below for a free evaluation of your claim by an experienced attorney. There is no cost or obligation for this service.
